Mrs Henderson´s Presents é uma das grandes promessas do ano. Apoiado pela máquina publicitária dos irmãos Weinstein e com forte apelo da critica britânica, o filme conta com uma Judi Dench em grande forma. A actriz foi nomeada - é uma das favoritas ao óscar - e a ela juntam-se na categoria de melhor actriz, Natasha Richardson (Asylum), Emily Watson (Wah-Wah), Joan Allen (Yes) e Rachel Weisz (The Constante Gardener).
Jonnhy Depp está em destaque também ao liderar o elenco de The Libertine, filme também da nova companhia dos irmãos Weinstein, e que lhe pode valer a terceira nomeação consecutiva ao óscar. O actor é favorito para vencer a categoria de melhor actor mas tem forte concorrência por parte de Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener) e Bob Hoskins (Mrs Hendersons Presents). Para além destes surgem nomeados Chiwetel Ejiofor (Kinky Boots) e Matthew MacFayden (In My Father´s Den).
Fernando Meirelles, Stephen Frears, Michael Winterbottom, Neil Marshall e Laurence Dunmore são os cinco concorrentes ao prémio de melhor realizador.
Destaque ainda para os cinco filmes estrangeirs escolhidos pelo juri dos BIFA. Crash, Der Untergang, Broken Flowers, The Woodsman e Sequestro Express.
Os BIFA anunciam os vencedores a 30 de Novembro e vão aproveitar para homenagear na cerimónia de entrega dos prémios a jovem Keira Knightley e ainda a actriz Tilda Swinton.
